Search in dereferenced list preview fields, new skills command, and bugfixes
Published: June 24, 2026
This release improves search functionality to match on reference fields, fixes initialization crashes, adds a skills install command, and resolves various UI and editor issues including comment truncation bugs.
Make reference fields searchable in list previews
List preview and global search now match on reference fields used in a document's preview, such as subtitle of author.name, not just direct fields.
New skills command
The CLI now includes a new sanity skills install command lets you install Sanity skills manually for various AI tools and agents. Previously you could install skills as part of the init process, but now you (or your agents) can add skills to existing projects.
Autocomplete disabled for form inputs
Starting with Studio v6.2.0, Studio sets autoComplete: 'off' on form inputs, so password manager and browser suggestion overlays don't cover the fields editors are working in.
If your editors rely on the browser to suggest text they've entered before, you can turn autocomplete back on. There's no configuration option for this. Instead, override autoComplete in the input's elementProps and pass the result to renderDefault.
To turn autocomplete on for a single field, add a custom input component to that field:
import {defineField, defineType} from 'sanity'
export const postType = defineType({
name: 'post',
title: 'Post',
type: 'document',
fields: [
defineField({
name: 'title',
type: 'string',
components: {
input: (props) =>
props.renderDefault({
...props,
elementProps: {...props.elementProps, autoComplete: 'on'},
}),
},
}),
],
})To turn it on for every input in the studio, register the same override at form.components.input in your studio configuration. The as InputProps assertion is required: InputProps is a union of every input type, and TypeScript can't match the spread object back to one member of it.
import {defineConfig, type InputProps} from 'sanity'
function AllowAutocomplete(props: InputProps) {
return props.renderDefault({
...props,
elementProps: {...props.elementProps, autoComplete: 'on'},
} as InputProps)
}
export default defineConfig({
// ...
form: {
components: {
input: AllowAutocomplete,
},
},
})The studio-wide override affects every input
It applies to every input in the studio, including object and array inputs, and it brings back the password manager and browser suggestion overlays on all of them. If editors only need autocomplete on a few fields, use the per-field override instead.
🐛 Notable bugfixes and improvements
- CLI: Prevent
initfrom crashing when an npm version lookup stalls. - Spreading the incoming markdown plugin props and setting
enabled: falsenow disables the built-in markdown shortcuts plugin. Previously this combination didn't typecheck. - Fixes a crash in test runners using the
nodeenvironment caused by accessingCSS.supportswhen theCSSglobal is undefined. - The structure tool's document list pane now provides Default sort and Default view menu items to restore the structure-configured default ordering and layout after a manual change.
- In the expanded (fullscreen) Portable Text Editor, the drag-and-drop drop indicator (the line that marks where a dragged block will land) stretched the full width of the editor instead of lining up with the content. It now aligns to the content column.
- Disabled native browser autocomplete/autofill suggestions on Studio form fields (string, number, email, url, tel, text, date, slug, and array-of-primitives items).
- Fixes a bug where a comment could be silently truncated when submitted during fast, uninterrupted typing, dropping the characters typed just before it was saved.
