Asset URLs that stay current and improved link handling
Published: December 17, 2025

Media Library
This update introduces persistent asset URLs that automatically reflect changes, clearer CDN URL labeling, and fixes for asset links opening outside the Dashboard.
The updates to asset URLs will gradually roll out to organizations in the coming weeks.
✨ Highlights
Persistent asset URLs
Asset URLs now point to the current version of an asset. When you update an asset or change its privacy settings, the same URL automatically reflects those changes—no need to update links wherever you've already used them.
Previously, copying an asset link produced a URL tied to a specific asset instance, meaning subsequent updates weren't reflected wherever that URL was already in use.
This change will be rolling out to everyone over the coming weeks.
🐛 Notable bugfixes and improvements
- Asset links now open in Dashboard context. Opening asset links in a new tab now correctly redirects to the Dashboard. Previously, these links would open at
media.sanity.iodirectly, outside the Dashboard context. This caused some features (such as original asset downloads) to appear unavailable. The redirect ensures all asset functionality works as intended. - Clearer Copy asset URL interaction. The
Copy asset URLaction is now labeledCopy asset CDN URL. A tooltip clarifies that the CDN URL may include automatic file-type and quality optimizations applied by Sanity's CDN.
