Content Agent for Linear
Use the Sanity Content Agent in Linear. Search, create, and update content in your Sanity projects through conversation, without leaving your workspace.
Install the Linear app
This installs the Sanity app into your Linear workspace. A workspace admin may need to approve the installation.
Requirements
- A Sanity account with at least one project
- A Linear workspace
- Sanity Studio v5.1.0 or later with a deployed schema
The agent needs your deployed schema to understand your content model. If you haven't deployed your schema, the agent can't discover your studio. Deploy your schema using one of these methods:
- Run
npx sanity deploy(deploys both the studio and schema) - Run
npx sanity deploy --external(registers the studio URL without hosting it on Sanity) - Visit your deployed studio at least once (this broadcasts the schema automatically)
Connect your Sanity account
After installation, each team member connects their own Sanity account. The agent uses your individual permissions, so it can only see and edit content you have access to.
- Open a conversation with the Sanity app in Linear by assigning an issue to the agent or @mentioning it in a comment or description.
- The app prompts you to connect your Sanity account.
- Click the link to authorize with your Sanity credentials.
To check your connection status or disconnect, use the Account Settings option in the agent's menu.
Start a conversation
There are two ways to interact with the Content Agent in Linear:
Assign an issue
Assign an issue to the agent to trigger it to take action. You remain the responsible assignee for the issue, and the agent works on your behalf. This is the primary way to delegate content tasks.
@mention in comments or descriptions
@mention the agent in any comment or issue description where it has team access. The agent responds in-thread to keep the conversation organized.
Choose a studio
When you start your first conversation, the agent asks which Sanity studio to use. Your choice determines which project and dataset the agent works with.
If your organization has multiple studios, you can tell the agent which one to use at any time.
What you can do
The Content Agent for Linear has the same capabilities as the Dashboard Content Agent. Describe what you need in plain language.
Find content
- Find all blog posts published in the last 30 days
- Show me all draft articles tagged with "product"
- Search for documents mentioning a specific topic
Create content
- Create a new blog post about our latest feature release
- Draft a product description for [product name]
- Generate a new FAQ entry for [topic]
Update content
- Update the title of the article about [topic]
- Add a new section to the [document name] page
- Change the author on all posts from [name] to [name]
All proposed edits require your review. The agent never makes changes without approval.
Analyze and audit
- Which articles are missing a description?
- List all documents that haven't been updated in over six months
- Check for duplicate content across blog posts
Agent guidance
Linear supports workspace-level and team-level guidance — markdown instructions that agents automatically receive when interacting in that context.
- Workspace-level guidance: navigate to Settings > Agents > Additional guidance
- Team-level guidance: navigate to team settings > Agents > Additional guidance
When both workspace and team guidance exist, team guidance takes priority.
Viewing agent activity
You can monitor the agent's involvement across your Linear workspace:
- The agent's user page shows its issue activity.
- In "My issues", delegated issues still appear so you maintain visibility.
- Use custom views filtered by Delegate to track agent-handled issues.
- Use Insights sliced by Delegate to review agent involvement over time.
Feedback
After each response, the agent shows 👍 and 👎 buttons. Use these to help improve the agent's responses over time.
Limitations
- Cannot publish documents. The agent creates drafts. A human reviews and publishes.
- Cannot delete documents. For safety, deletion isn't supported.
- No local files. The agent only works with content in your Sanity dataset or available on the web.
- No Canvas or Media Library. The agent works with Studio content only.
- No rollback within the agent. Use the Studio's document history to revert changes.
- One organization per session. Your connection is scoped to a single Sanity organization.
- Actions are attributed to you. Any content the agent creates or edits appears under your name in the document history.
- Agents are not billable seats in Linear.
- Agents cannot sign in to the Linear app, access admin functionality, or manage users.
Troubleshooting
The app isn't responding
Check that the agent has been installed and has access to the relevant team. Workspace admins can verify this in Settings > Applications.
"Connect your account" keeps appearing
Try disconnecting and reconnecting your Sanity account. Make sure you're authorizing with the correct Sanity credentials.
The agent can't find my content
Ensure your Sanity Studio schema has been deployed. The agent needs a deployed schema to discover your studio and content model.
The agent doesn't respond to @mentions
The agent must have access to the team where you're @mentioning it. Workspace admins can configure team access during installation or from Settings > Applications.
No studios available
Make sure you have at least one Sanity project with a deployed studio. If you've recently deployed, try disconnecting and reconnecting your account.
