Redesigned aspects sidebar + improvements and bug fixes

v2025-11-26

✨ Highlights

Redesigned the aspects sidebar

Image showing a list of assets and edit sidebar in the Media Library application

The aspects sidebar has been rebuilt for better usability. All defined aspects now appear in collapsible accordion sections with sticky headers, making it easier to navigate complex metadata structures. You can filter aspects by name to quickly find what you need, and your form state and scroll position are preserved when switching between assets.

When selecting more than one asset, the selection count is displayed in the sticky sidebar header, so you always know how many assets you're updating. Public aspects are clearly marked with icons and tooltips.

We have also simplified how aspects work: all defined aspects are displayed by default, eliminating the need to add or remove them from individual assets manually.

🐛 Notable bugfixes and improvements

  • Fixes an issue where Lottie and Rive animations wouldn't autoplay in full-screen view
  • Fixes Rive previews getting stuck in the sidebar when navigating between assets
  • Fixes stale image previews appearing when navigating quickly with the arrow keys
  • Fixes a regression where the PDF viewer toolbar displayed a serif font instead of Inter
  • Fixes the loading spinner not being centered on the auth screen

Enhanced previews and streamlined asset management

v2025-10-15

This update introduces improved preview capabilities for videos and animations, making it faster to find the right asset. Asset management workflows have been streamlined with improved navigation, a new context menu for bulk actions, and a cleaner interface that works better across devices.

✨ Highlights

Preview videos and animations without opening them

You can now preview video and animation assets directly in the Media Library. Hover over video thumbnails to scrub through frames and quickly find the moment you need. Lottie and Rive animations play interactively on hover, so you can see exactly how they'll look before adding them to your content.

Streamlined management and preview experience

Asset management is now more efficient with several workflow improvements. Use the spacebar or double-click to preview assets quickly. Bulk actions like adding to collections or deleting multiple assets are now available through a new context menu in the right panel. The interface has been optimized for touch devices and smaller screens, making asset management easier regardless of how you access Sanity.

🐛 Notable bugfixes and improvements

  • Refined the visual design by reducing the weight of layout and selection borders for a cleaner, less cluttered interface.
  • Fixed an issue where pressing the spacebar in the Portable Text Editor could unintentionally trigger asset previews.
  • Fixed an error that occurred when removing items from arrays or blocks from the Portable Text Editor.
  • Videos now autoplay (muted) when opened in fullscreen preview for a smoother viewing experience.
